Kapuskasing traffic stop leads to impaired charge

A Hearst man was charged with impaired driving in Kapuskasing.

KAPUSKASING - A routine traffic stop led to impaired and drug-related charges. 

On April 16 around 6 p.m., James Bay OPP says it pulled over a vehicle on Byng Avenue in Kapuskasing. The officer determined the driver was impaired and they were brought to the Kapuskasing detachment for more testing. 

A 56-year-old man from Hearst is charged with operation while impaired - drugs and alcohol, possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, and failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in a Kapuskasing court on May 13. Their driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
