Trafficking charges laid at RIDE program

KIRKLAND LAKE - Drugs were seized and three people are facing trafficking-related charges after a RIDE program.

While officers were checking vehicles at the April 14 RIDE program in Kirkland Lake, it was determined that the occupant of a vehicle was wanted on an outstanding warrant. 

During the investigation, police say they seized suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine and LSD with an estimated street value of $6,320, as well as drug paraphernalia.

Karen Piche, 41, from Senneterre, Quebec, is charged with: 

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
  • 3 counts of fail to comply with probation order 

Jean Francois Baril-Landry, 38, of Senneterre, Quebec, is charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
  • 2 counts of fail to comply with probation order

Nathaniel Aumond, 36, of Amos, Quebec, is charged with: 

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine.
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

Baril-Landry and Aumond were released from police custody and are slated to appear in court on May 30. Piche was held for a bail hearing and held in police custody. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
