TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 5 candidate Kristin Murray's:
I'm seeking re-election for the position of Councillor – Ward 5, to continue the community-engaged work that I am authentically committed to carrying out. I have actively been actively engaged in our community for over 20 years. From being a board member with local non-profit organizations to coaching my daughter’s ringette team, as well as working with high-risk youth.
My first term on council has allowed me to elevate the many voices of those in our community. I am known to bring a practical, common-sense approach to decision making where I utilize my political acumen to assist with the growth of our community, whether that be in the arts and culture space, advocating for infrastructure and development, growing our future leaders through mentorship opportunities, and utilizing innovative approaches to addressing our communities’ challenges, to name a few.
I am someone that is not afraid to roll up my sleeves and take part in bettering our community. Proof of this is the many beautiful murals that you see in and around our community, where I actively took part in connecting with local youth, businesses, city staff and the community at large. The mural project did not require the financial support of taxpayers' dollars, as it was secured through a successful proposal that I wrote.
Timmins has an abundance of local leaders, capital assets, anchor institutions and brain power that can be utilized in a way that will lead to a very prosperous community. Given my commitment to advancing our community, I have always had a vision that Timmins will reach its full potential and if elected in the upcoming election I look forward to working with the newly elected council in making that vision a reality.
