COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

As of this morning, the Porcupine Health Unit is not reporting any new COVID-19 cases in its region.

So far, 29 people have tested positive for the virus, with 19 of those cases being confirmed in the past week. PHU Medical Officer of Health Dr. Lianne Catton also reported the first two COVID-19 deaths in the area Friday. Of the tests submitted, 332 have been negative and the results of 46 are pending. Five cases are resolved.

Ontario Health reported another 408 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 this morning, bringing the province’s total to 4,038. There are now 1,449 cases resolved (recovered) and 119 deaths in the province linked to the virus.

Expect to see bylaw officers at Timmins grocery stores tomorrow. Mayor George Pirie said they'll be there to educate people about the COVID-19 shopping rules (having one member of a family go to the store at a time), but will "will rapidly move to laying fines" to make sure workers and shoppers and safe. The health unit has also issued an alert for volunteers and patrons of the Lord's Kitchen in relation to a positive case. It says there could have been potential exposure at the facility March 12 during dinner, March 13 at breakfast, and March 20 at breakfast. More details are available here
