Flooding causes Kirkland Lake to declare state of emergency

The town says that Murdoch Creek is overflowing and causing the sanitary system to overload

KIRKLAND LAKE - Flooding has led to a state of emergency being declared in Kirkland Lake. 

The declaration was made today (April 12) around 4. p.m. The town says that Murdoch Creek is overflowing and causing the sanitary system to overload. 

"The location of the emergency starts at 1 Dunfield Rd. travelling west then southwest to Brookbank Avenue and Carter Avenue flowing southerly and expanding through the Town of Kirkland Lake. This area may be expanded over time depending on deteriorating conditions," reads a news release.

The town is working with Emergency Management Ontario in case support is required. 

"Residents are encouraged to monitor their homes and to assist their neighbours if required," says the town.
