Another change is on the way for the traffic flow in downtown Timmins.

Starting tonight (May 9) at 6 p.m. when the traffic lights at some intersections switch to flashing, they will stay that way for the rest of the Connecting Link construction.

The intersections affected are Pine Street South at Second and Third, and Cedar Street South at Second and Third.

With construction ongoing on Algonquin Boulevard, the detour is Mountjoy Street, Second Avenue, and Brunette.

When the traffic lights are flashing the intersection works as a four-way stop.

"The first vehicle to enter has the right-of-way at a four-way stop. If two or more cars stop at the same time, right-of-way goes to the vehicle on the right. This change will help improve traffic flow in the downtown around the busy Second Avenue detour," reads the City of Timmins update.

Earlier this week, work also started on the bridges over the Mattagami River and Porcupine River are being rehabilitated as part of this year's Connecting Link work.

Full road closures are not expected for the projects, but there will be lane closures and traffic delays.
