An annual tradition is back, though a little earlier than usual.

The curbside bulk item collection hits the streets in Timmins today (May 6). The service will be moving across the city in the coming weeks to pick up  large items, and leaf and yard waste until May 17.

First up on the schedule are all areas north of Ross, Jubilee and Airport Road — including rural areas and Melrose — working east to Highway 655. That's starts today (May 6).

Residents can also drop off one free load of residential household waste per property at the Deloro landfill on Pine Street South during that time. Residents must provide proof of address at the landfill gatehouse to have the tipping fees waived.

The collection start days for the  rest of the city are:

  • Wednesday, May 8 - All areas north of Algonquin Boulevard and south of Jubilee and Ross, starting at Lakeshore Road and working west to the Mattagami River.
  • Thursday, May 9 - All areas south of Algonquin Boulevard, starting at the Mattagami River and working east to Railway Street, including Dalton Road (to the end of the asphalt).
  • Monday, May 13
    • All of the Mountjoy area, west of the Mattagami River, including the Kamiskotia Lake area.
    • All of Schumacher through Gold Centre and all areas on and off Goldmine Road, which includes Carium Road, Delnite, MacDonald Hill and Buffalo Ankerite.
  • Wednesday, May 15 - Starting on Legion Drive heading east to the traffic lights on Highway 101 at Ferguson/Bristol Road, including South Porcupine, Porcupine and Connaught Hill.
  • Thursday, May 16 - Starting at the Highway 11 traffic lights at Bristol Road and heading east through Porcupine, Bob's Lake and Connaught.

At the German Township landfill site, a container is also available for people to drop off bulky items.

What to put out

Here's a reminder of what you can put out at the curb.

  • Each residence is allowed to put out up the equivalent of a standard half-ton pickup truck (a pile eight feet long by four feet wide and two feet high).
  • Mattresses and box springs must be securely wrapped in plastic to be considered for pickup.
  • Items that aren't collected are concrete and asphalt, batteries, tires, electronics, propane tanks, white goods or items with Freon, recyclables, paints, liquids, fuels, and chemicals.

A full list of all the guidelines and the schedule are available here.

For household hazardous and special waste items, the annual drop off day is on June 15 at the snow dump on Spruce Street South.
