A newcomer to local politics, Cassidy Villeneuve, says she wants to run as a Conservative in the next federal election in Nipissing–Timiskaming.

She kicked off her campaign Saturday at École secondaire publique Odyssée, which she once attended,

Running with the campaign slogan: ‘A Common-Sense Conservative’ she wants to scrap the carbon tax, stand up for law-abiding firearm owners, and put dangerous criminals behind bars.

“Northern Ontario deserves a strong voice in Ottawa; they deserve a fighter who understands them. That’s why I’m running to be your next Member of Parliament” said Villeneuve as she launched her campaign.

Born in Iroquois Falls and raised in North Bay,  Villeneuve has spent the last number of years living in Ottawa and working in numerous roles supporting Conservative MPs, including most recently the Shadow Minister of Public Safety in the fight against gun legislation.

Villeneuve feels the Liberal Party no longer represents the values and people of northern Ontario.

“Let’s be honest – our values are not represented by Justin Trudeau’s government in Ottawa. In fact, the Liberals have been working against everything that Northern Ontario stands for, so why do we keep sending them back to Ottawa?”

Villeneuve says she is focused on addressing the cost-of-living crisis impacting Canadians in northern Ontario. In her speech, she pledged to "scrap the carbon tax to ensure affordable food, home heating and gas for all Canadians."

She criticized the current Liberal government for disregarding the rural way of life enjoyed by many families in northern Ontario, stating, “The Liberals have been working against everything that Northern Ontario stands for. I’m dedicated to restoring the promise and way of life shared across northern Ontario.”

Villeneuve is confident she can bring home the win in Nipissing–Timiskaming.

“I am running because politicians are supposed to work for us – the people, not against us. So let me work for you."

The riding is presently held by Liberal Anthony Rota who has already indicated he will not run in the next election.
