Ward 5 candidate Andrew Marks.

TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 5 candidate Andrew Mark's:

It has been my honour to serve the residents of Ward 5 this past four years. Thank you! There is still work to be done to make the City of Timmins a better place to live, to work and to enjoy a quality of life that is second to none. I have lived in Timmins all my life and the opportunity to represent the residents of Ward 5 around the council table is something that I do not take lightly. This huge responsibility requires someone with experience, dedication and a vast community knowledge to ensure we continue to grow our great city!

I am a proud life-long resident of Timmins, currently working for the Northeastern Catholic District School Board as their community relations officer. I am serving my fifth term as a city councillor, representing Ward 5 in the City of Timmins.

As a councillor, I am currently sitting as a member of the Timmins Museum board of directors, the Downtown Timmins BIA board of directors, the Timmins Library board of directors, the Timmins Non-Profit Housing board of directors, the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association board of directors, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority board of directors, and the Golden Manor board of management.

My vision for Timmins is a safe, inclusive, prosperous and proud community. By working together, we can achieve this.

As your councillor, my focus will always be to keep taxes as low as possible, encourage affordable housing options for seniors and new housing development for much-needed workers in all areas. To grow our community, I will support all immigration partnerships and focus on economic diversification.

Also, our quality of life must become a priority. I want to live in Timmins, and I want a first-class trail system, music in the park, and activities for families young and old.

When re-elected on Oct. 24 I will continue to work for you.

To share your thoughts, your ideas and what is important to you, please call 705-360-3856, or email [email protected]. Be sure to also visit my website andrewmarks.ca where you can provide comments.

The municipal election is on Oct. 24. The other Ward 5 candidates are Steve Black, Rick Dubeau, Veronica Farrell, Caroline Martel, James McMahon, Kristin Murray, Cory Robin, Neil Siblall and Ed Stecewicz.
