Timiskaming-Cochrane PC candidate Tory Delaurier.

With the Ontario election on Feb. 27, TimminsToday asked each of the candidates three questions. Below are Timiskaming-Cochrane PC candidate Tory Delaurier's responses.

What is the top issue in Timiskaming-Cochrane right now? How would you address it?

The top issues in Timiskaming-Cochrane are road safety and healthcare access. Our highways need serious investment, including more 2+1 highway expansions to improve safety and traffic flow across Northern Ontario. I will fight for critical infrastructure funding to make our roads safer for families, businesses, and industries that rely on them.

Healthcare is also a top priority — everyone deserves access to a doctor. I will work to recruit and retain more doctors and healthcare professionals to ensure residents get the care they need close to home. Our communities should not have to struggle to find basic medical care.

How will you be accountable to and represent constituents at Queen's Park if elected?

I have always believed in fiscal responsibility, collaboration, and putting the people first. My leadership as Mayor has been about listening to the community, working with regional leaders, and making smart decisions that benefit the people I serve. As MPP, I will continue to be accessible and transparent, ensuring that the concerns of Timiskaming-Cochrane are heard loud and clear at Queen’s Park. Whether it’s securing funding for critical projects, advocating for healthcare improvements, or pushing for infrastructure investment, I will work hard every day to deliver for our riding.

What do you want Timiskaming-Cochrane residents to know about you?

I am a lifelong Northern Ontarian who is deeply committed to the success of our region. I have spent over 18 years in public service as Mayor and Councillor, working to build stronger communities, create opportunities, and keep our region competitive. As Mayor, I have secured funding for major projects, helped bring a Junior A hockey team to our region, and fought to keep tax increases lower than surrounding municipalities while still investing in critical infrastructure like a new long-term care facility.

I have built strong relationships with regional leaders and Indigenous communities to foster economic development and social progress. As MPP, I will fight for Timiskaming-Cochrane at Queen’s Park, ensuring we get our fair share of funding, investment, and opportunities for future generations.

Five people are running in Timiskaming-Cochrane. The other candidates are Liberal Rick Ellsmere, New Blue Stephen MacLeod, Green Kris Rivard, and incumbent NDP John Vanthof

Election day is on Feb. 27. Advance polls are open Feb. 20-22.
