This Timmins park is worthy of a spot on your summer bucket list

The provincial park opened just in time for a sunny Victoria Day long weekend

Kettle Lakes Provincial Park is officially open for the 2024 summer season, offering activities for every kind of nature enjoyer.

The park, which is located on Municipal Road in Connaught, boasts 22 spring-fed lakes, two campgrounds, beaches, and more. Kettle Lakes opened on May 17 and will close again for the winter on October 15.

The two campgrounds, The Pines and Island Lake, can accommodate tents and large trailers. Two comfort stations located near the Island Lake Campground offer amenities such as hot water, showers, laundry, and flush toilets. A large group camping site and one cabin are also available to rent.

There are three unsupervised beach areas located at Slab Lake, Island Lake, and Green Lake, with a playground at Slab Lake that makes it a great spot for family day-trips.

The park offers canoe, kayak, paddleboat and paddleboard rentals which include lifejackets, as well as bicycle rentals. There are also two picnic areas located at Slab Lake and Green Lake which are available to rent. There is a boat launch at Hughes Lake, the only lake in the park which allows the use of power boats.

Many of the lakes within the park make for bountiful fishing spots, and there is a tackle share program which lends fishing rods and tackle to visitors. In addition, there is a wide variety of bird species that call the park home, making it a great place for bird watching. There are four hiking trails ranging in difficulty from easy to moderate, and 14 kilometres of biking trails.

For those looking for a more educational experience the park has a discovery program, operating out of the visitor centre at the park’s entrance, that offers guided hikes and children’s programs throughout the summer.
