Registration for the derby is $50 for two holes and can be made at Guiho Saw Sales/Bait N Tackle until 5 pm Friday, March 13. If you are unable to make the deadline, you will still be able to register before the start of the derby, March 14, at the weigh-in station.
The first-place winner will take home an 8'x10' finished ice hut sponsored by Timmins Building, valued at approximately $4,500. Students of O’Gorman High School Carpentry Class have offered to build the ice hut in support of the Sea Cadets.
The second-place winner will go home with $600, sponsored by BMT Insurance, and D Movers sponsor the Mistry weight prize of $500.
All proceeds for the event are going to the local Sea Cadets that will help them purchase new equipment for marksmanship, biathlon, band, and other extracurricular actives locally.
Last year, the derby was a nail-biter that saw many changes in the leader board throughout the day. With any luck this year, Lisa can keep Clint on the main trail and out of any slush.
Remember that these young men and women of the Sea Cadets will either help protect or be on reserve to protect our freedom one day.
The skills they learn today may help them deal with other situations they face in their adult lives, whether they pursue a career in the armed forces or not, so come on out and show your support by attending this ice fishing fundraising event.
