Are you looking for something to do during Family Day Free Fishing weekend with the kids? Look no further than the 9th Annual Timmins Fur Council on Porcupine Lake held Monday, February 17, from 10 am to 2 pm. in South Porcupine.
Over the years, this derby has continued to grow, and this year is no exception. Previous years have seen 120-150 kids participating in this derby. The derby is entirely free for kids under 16, but registration is required, and spots are limited.
Time slots available are 10 to 11a .m., 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12 to 1 p.m., and 1 to 2 p.m.
To register your child and time slot, please email the Timmins Fur Council at [email protected].
Seeing this is a children’s derby, the Timmins Fur Council will have all the holes pre-drilled, and rods and bait will be available for the kids.
The Timmins Fur Council will have a barbeque with plenty of food, a fire pit to roast marshmallows, juice boxes, and hot chocolate on hand for the kids.
If you haven't had the chance to enter this derby with your child, I would highly recommend this derby to families that are looking for a way to introduce their children to ice fishing.
Be sure to return after the last time slot is done at 2 p.m. as there will be plenty of prizes so that no child that fished in the derby leaves empty-handed.
The winner will have their catch mounted by Bob's Taxidermy.
I look forward to seeing all those smiling little faces and hearing their stories again this year. Hope to see you there.
