The D&R Little League Field is home to La Ronde Little League baseball in Timmins.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of speaking with Garret Latourelle from Timmins Little League Baseball. Garret is one of the fine young coaches who will be involved in the upcoming Minor Provincial Little League Championships being held at D&R Field in Timmins.

Games get underway this Saturday and continue throughout next week. The event features six teams vying for a provincial championship. Teams participating are High Park, South Ottawa Blues, Timmins Lynx, Windsor West and the Kingston Colts. One other team will be determined before the games begin.

I spoke a little with Garret about the championships and his involvement. As a former Little Leaguer himself Garret is now giving back to the game by coaching. It was so refreshing to listen to him talk with such excitement, passion and positivity about his team and the event.

He is optimistic that the Lynx have really started to gel and develop of late and will be a formidable opponent for anyone. The Lynx have not faced any of the other five teams this season so it will be hard to gauge how everybody stacks up before they take to the diamond.

Asked what he thought his team's strengths are, Garret stated the player's passion for the game, the coachability of the players, some good arms on the mound and a generally sound and solid all-around club.

He is hoping that the kid's dedication, hard work and commitment will be rewarded with solid community support from fans at their games.

The games are free to attend and I can't emphasize how vital a raucous crowd is to these kids.

The full schedule is at the bottom of this article or can be found online here.

A large number of volunteers are required to host an event like this and Garret mentioned the group could still use some more volunteers to help out. You can go to the Timmins Little League Baseball Facebook page for more information on how to volunteer.

The Lynx 2023 Minor Provincial roster is as follows:

  • 4  Easton Horbul
  • 5 MJ Latourelle
  • 9 Jack Stefanic
  • 15 Landon Tambeau
  • 16 Lucas Prevost
  • 19 Callum Seguin
  • 23 Travis Beaudoin
  • 26 Zac Secord
  • 29 Jackson Jalbert
  • 31 Kolton Lefebrve
  • 38 Brady Therrien
  • 37 Tyler Swartz
  • 41 Ty Pressault
  • Coaches: Chris Greer, David Tambeau and Garret Latourelle.

So here is your chance to watch a local youth ball club take on the best Ontario has to offer. This dynamite little group of very well-coached athletes just asks that you come out in big (and vocal) numbers to watch them.

It’s very nice to see Danny Katic sign another deal for this season with the ECHL's Norfolk Admirals. The talented Katic is looking to add to his strong season last year, with an even better one in 23/24. Katic will be a key component in the Admirals run to a successful season.

Later skater.
