Beginning Oct. 5, United Way Centraide North East Ontario/Nord-est de l’Ontario (UWCNEO) will be accepting applications for a second round of funding through the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF).

The $350 million investment first announced by the federal government on April 21, 2020, aims to help charities and non-profit organizations adapt and increase frontline services for vulnerable populations disproportionately affected by COVID-19.

As with the initial round, United Way Centraide Canada (UWCC), Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) and the Canadian Red Cross (CRC) will be intermediaries and administer the balance of funds in communities across the country.

“The ECSF has been instrumental in helping frontline service providers continue to offer programs and supports to our communities’ most vulnerable citizens. Through the initial ECSF investment, UWCNEO disbursed over $970,000 throughout the district,” said Mary Lou Hussak, executive director of UWCNEO.

“As agencies in our community continue to transform and find new ways to assist, more help is needed. Through this second-round of funding, UWCNEO will receive approximately $440,000 for distribution across all six districts. Together, we will continue to address the impact of the pandemic.”

“Charities and non-profit organizations are at the heart of our communities, helping the most vulnerable Canadians during the COVID-19 crisis. The Government of Canada is pleased to support these organizations through the Emergency Community Support Fund so that they can continue their invaluable work.” -The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development

From Oct. 5 – 30, UWCNEO will be accepting applications for the second-round of funding from the ECSF. For more information about the fund, to access the application, or to review the criteria, including frequently asked questions, please visit www.uwcneo.com.
