Another popular summer event that has been happening for decades won't go ahead this year due to COVID-19.
Beauce Carnaval, which was scheduled to makes its 50th-consecutive stop in Timmins this July, has been cancelled.
Over the years it's been set up at a number of places. Most recently it would take over the parking lot at the McIntyre Arena for a weekend.
According to the Timmins Kiwanis Club, the company's 51 rides that normally travel through Quebec and Ontario every summer will stay in storage until 2021.
"The Kiwanis Club of Timmins has been in partnership now with three generations of the Vallée family in having Beauce Carnaval come to Timmins over the last five decades. This is an important annual event for Kiwanis which brings in funds that are re-invested in our community needs. We were planning special draws and activities for this visit, Jacques and his daughter Véronique were also planning some special rides for the event that had not made their way to Timmins in prior years," reads a Kiwanis Club news release.
This is the second big annual event that raises cash for the club and has had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.
Charity Bingos at Jackpot City Bingo have been cancelled since March 17.
The club says these events bring in the majority of its annual revenue.
"In May, Kiwanis had launched a virtual bottle drive over Facebook and this past Friday (June 5), partnered with the Rotary Club and various sponsors to hold a second bottle drive and drop-off at Full Beard Brewing," reads the statement.
"This has help raised some moneys that will 100 per cent go back to help the children and youth of our community. In February – before COVID-19 – we had also launched a draw for $2,000, $1,000 and $500 prizes called the Santa$ Surplus Draw. The draw was to be May 5 – tickets are still valid and available for sale but the campaign has been put on hold until a more appropriate time for the sales to continue and a new draw date to be chosen."
