Movie-goers can catch a couple of classic movies on the big screen this summer.
The Horizon Drive-In is setting up in town Aug. 21 for two screenings, Grease at 9 p.m., and IT at 11:30 p.m.
The pop-up movie theatre will be in the Archie Dillon Sportsplex parking lot.
For the past couple of months, owner of the Sudbury-based company Benjamin Mackenzie said they've been securing dates to screen movies across Northern Ontario.
“We originally reached out to Timmins and the city wasn’t interested in doing anything at the time just cause they thought it was too much of a liability on their end,” he said.
After a successful July, and "a lot of support from the community in Timmins", Mackenzie said they approached the city again. This time, they got the go-ahead.
“The support and the interest has been incredible, we’ve sold out most of our weekends in July and our tickets are trending now almost 50 per cent sold out for the majority of the shows in August. It’s very exciting to see,” he said.
For people picking up a ticket, which are $15 each and available online, expect a classic drive-in experience.
"Our screen’s 40 feet in the air, it’s an inflatable screen. They’ll tune into the audio through FM on a radio frequency that we set and then they can also buy fresh concessions on site or pre-order them online and have them delivered to their vehicle,” he said.
If the August date goes well, he said they'll definitely be back in September.
While the regular tour will likely stop at the end of next month, he said they're talking about a Halloween tour in October.
