COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

No new COVID-19 cases were reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today. 

To-date, there have been 85 confirmed cases of the virus, none of which are active in the region, according to the health unit.

The health unit is aware of 25,926 tests being done, which is an increase of 294 from yesterday's report. 

The COVID-19 Assessment Centre in Timmins is closed Monday, Oct. 12. According to Timmins and District Hospital, it reopens Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 8:30 a.m. Tests are by appointment only. People should only seek testing if you have symptoms, have been exposed to a confirmed case and know about it through public health or the COVID alert app, are a resident or work in a setting with an COVID-19 outbreak, or are eligible for a targeted testing initiative directed by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. To book an appointment, call 705-267-0224. Its regular hours are Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Public Health Ontario reported 929 new COVID-19 cases today, which is the highest ever reported in a single day. Since January, the province has reported 57,681 lab-confirmed COVID cases and has recorded 49,032 cases as resolved or recovered, and 2,997 deaths. 

To curb the spread of the virus in the province's hotspots, Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, has made recommendations that over the next 28 days, the Toronto, Ottawa and Peel Regions step down to a modified stage 2 level. More details are available here.
