COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

One new COVID-19 case was reported in Timmins today. 

It is the 101st case of the virus in the Porcupine Health Unit region since the start of the pandemic. Newmont Porcupine also reported today that an employee at its Hoyle Pond Mine tested positive and the mine is undergoing a deep cleaning and sanitizing. The company's operations at the Hollinger Open Pit and Dome processing sites in Timmins, or Borden mine in Chapleau are not affected. 

Of the 101 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the area, 88 people have recovered and nine people have died. There are four known active cases of the virus — two in Timmins, one in the Hearst, Hornepayne area, and one out of the region. 

The health unit is aware of 33,456 tests being done. That is an increase of 142 since the last report Friday.

In the past week, 2,741 tests were done in the region. The week prior, 756 tests were completed. 

Public Health Ontario reported 1,242 new cases of COVID-19 today. To date, there have been 85,395 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. Of those, 72,636 are recovered, and 3,245 have died. In Northern Ontario, in the first week of November health units reported more cases than were confirmed in all of October. So far this month, 84 new cases have been reported by northern health units. In October, 79 cases were confirmed. There are 83 known active cases.
