In the spirit of the holiday season, Glencore Kidd Operations is giving back to the community.
The Timmins mine has donated $27,500 to a number of organizations.
“We know that a number of individuals are struggling and feeling vulnerable due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that these donations can help nourish families during the holiday season and in the New Year," said Mark Furlotte, Glencore Kidd Operations general manager, in a news release.
The Timmins Food Bank, Lord's Kitchen and South Porcupine Food Bank have each received $5,000.
“The Lord’s Kitchen is grateful for the continued support from Glencore Kidd Operations. This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, donations mean more than ever before, they can be life changing for many individuals and families," said Dee Russell, Lord's Kitchen president.
South Porcupine Food Bank treasurer Peter Davis said the donation will help meet "client demands for food and hygiene items in the coming winter months."
The United Way Centraide North East Ontario was given $5,000 for local social service programs.
“2020 has been a challenging year for many individuals and families facing impossible situations. We are thankful to Glencore Kidd Operations for their generosity and unwavering support. This important investment will be put to work helping to sustain a vital social safety net of programs that are critical now, and in the months and years ahead," said Jennifer Gorman, United Way Centraide North East Ontario regional manager.
Earlier this month, the mining company also donated $7,500 to the Schumacher Lions Club's Stan Fowler Christmas Fund.
