Public Health Ontario is reporting 361 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province today, which is a 1.8 per cent increase in the number of cases in the province.
There are also 56 more deaths attributed to the coronavirus being reported today, and 260 recoveries.
Of the 56 deaths reported today, one person was between the ages of 40 and 59, 10 people were between the ages of 60 and 79, and 45 people were over the age of 80.
There are currently 1,025 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, including 192 people in intensive care, and 146 people on ventilators.
The province has recorded a total of 20,907 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario since Jan. 15. Of those, 15,391 people have recovered (73.6 per cent) and 1,725 people have died (8.3 per cent).
Today’s provincial update states there were 11,957 tests completed in a day and there are 10,811 tests awaiting results. There have been 459,921 tests completed by labs in Ontario.
The Ministry of Long-Term Care’s daily report states there are now 180 active outbreaks in long-term care facilities, with 2,703 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in residents and 1,677 in staff. The ministry reports there have been 1,239 deaths of residents as a result of the virus. Of those deaths, only 812 are included in the total number of deaths reported by Public Health Ontario.
There have been 98 outbreaks reported in Ontario retirement homes and 73 outbreaks at hospitals.
In the Porcupine Health Unit area, there are three active outbreaks at long-term care facilities. They are at the Golden Manor and Extendicare in Timmins, as well as South Centennial Manor in Iroquois Falls.
There have been 65 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Timmins area. Of those, 49 are resolved and five people have died.
In Northern Ontario, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit has the highest number of confirmed cases, with 80. The Porcupine Health Unit, which covers Timmins and the surrounding area, still has the highest rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population among other health units in Northern Ontario. The rate there is 77.9 per 100,000 people.
According to today's report, which includes data from Jan. 15 to May 11, the number of cases at other Northern Ontario health units, as well as the rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population are:
• Algoma Public Health - 16 cases, rate of 14 per 100,000 population
• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 18 cases, rate of 13.9 per 100,000 population
• Porcupine Health Unit - 65, rate of 77.9 per 100,000 population
• Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 59 cases, rate of 29.6 per 100,000 population
• Timiskaming Health Unit - 18 cases, rate of 55.1 per 100,000
• Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 80 cases, rate of 53.3 per 100,000 population
• Northwestern Health Unit - 15 cases, rate of 17.1 per 100,000 population
According to the report, in Northeastern Ontario, there have been 176 confirmed cases, and the rate is 31.5 per 100,000 population. In Northwestern Ontario, there have been 95 cases and a rate of 40. The provincial rate per 100,000 population is 140.7
