Two COVID-19 cases reported, workplace outbreak declared in Moosonee

Two new COVID-19 cases are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today.

An outbreak of the virus has also been declared at Innes Transport in Moosonee.

The new cases are in the Hearst, Hornepayne area. Both people are contacts of a case and in self-isolation, according to the health unit.

The outbreak in Moosonee is at Innes Transport, where the health unit says two employees are confirmed cases. An investigation determined the cases are related to the workplace. The health unit has already followed up with high-risk exposures.

"The PHU is working closely with the workplace to ensure the infection prevention and control measures are in place. The management team at Innes Transport is taking all the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of infection and prevent the transmission of  COVID-19," reads the announcement.

To date, there have been 338 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 285 are recovered and 25 people have died. There are 28 known active cases.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne.
