INSIDE THE VILLAGE: Doug Ford did not fix hallway health care

This week's podcast: New data obtained by The Trillium through a freedom of information request reveals that hundreds of patients per day are being kept in 'unconventional spaces' at Ontario hospitals

Welcome back to Inside the Village, a one-of-a-kind podcast where all news is local — and no topic is off-limits.

On this week's episode: So much for fixing hallway health care.

Back in 2018, now-Premier Doug Ford campaigned on a promise to tackle the glaring problem of hospital patients being placed in hallways and other "unconventional spaces."

But according to new data obtained by The Trillium through a freedom of information request, the problem is actually worse than ever.

The data reveals that in January, nearly 2,000 patients per day on average were kept in unconventional spaces in hospitals across the province — the highest number since Ontario Health started tracking the problem back in 2017.

Here to break down the numbers is reporter Aidan Chamandy, whose in-depth story has received plenty of attention over the past few days.

Wondering how your local hospital measures up when it comes to hallway health care? Chamandy has all the graphs you need.

Also on the podcast this week: Get ready for SPACES and TorontoToday! The launch dates for both are fast approaching.
