TIMMINS - A local credit union is working to make sure the shelves at the food bank are stocked for Thanksgiving.

Your Neighbourhood Credit Union (YNCU) is running a food drive today at Johnson's Your Independent Grocer at the corner of Algonquin Boulevard and Highway 655 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The items collected are for the Timmins Food Bank.

“We can’t say enough about our local support. We can’t do what we do without the help of schools, individuals, and local businesses,” said Jim Young, Timmins Food Bank chair, in a news release.

The most-needed items at the food bank are canned brown beans, canned meat such as tuna, chicken and ham, and cereal.

"At YNCU, we believe that giving back is a cornerstone of building strong communities, and our annual food drive allows us to make a tangible impact. We’re honoured to play a part in supporting the Timmins Food Bank and the vital work they do,” said Linda Bernier,  YNCU branch manager.
