With the increased adoption of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) in underground mining, Workplace Safety North (WSN) is hosting a seminar designed to provide insight into assessing the risks and managing the hazards associated with the new technology.
Scheduled for Jan. 20, the half-day seminar will be held online and attendance is being offered free of charge.
The content is geared toward general managers, mine managers, health and safety managers, supervisors, joint health and safety committee representatives, and maintenance and procurement professionals.
Presenters include:
- Mike Mayhew of Mayhew Performance, who will speak about how to manage risks of implementing BEC in an underground mining environment;
- Anthony Griffiths and Maarten van Koppen of Maclean Engineering, who will speak about BEV risk mitigation;
- Steve Holmik and Craig Harris of Glencore Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, who will provide an incident summary on a BEV fire at Onaping Depth; and
- Ontario Mine Rescue, which will speak about the emergency response to battery fires.
Attendees are being encouraged to ask questions via the webinar chatbox during the presentation.
