TIMMINS - With the clock ticking on the current existence of the non-profit economic development agency, a few details on it moving under the city's wing have been released.
Brenda Camirand has been appointed the municipal director of economic development, the City of Timmins announced Nov. 4. Effective immediately, Tourism Timmins is also becoming part of the Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC).
"We've made some effective changes to streamline resource allocation and accountability," said Dave Landers, Timmins CAO. "The move for Tourism Timmins is strategic, and will allow us to better align the city's tourism initiatives with priorities to enhance and grow the city's economy."
Camirand has been with the organization for some time. Her most recent title is director of business development and retention.
In February, Timmins council approved absorbing the TEDC under the city's umbrella after a third-party review found there's a lack of governance oversight. The municipality is assuming any agreements or contracts the TEDC has extending beyond Dec. 31, 2024.
A report is expected to be brought to council to outline the strategy and direction for economic development.

Tourism Timmins has been working under the Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre department.
The TEDC and museum are in the same building. Tourism Timmins, which currently consists of one staff member, will move to the TEDC offices at 130 Spruce St. S. this week.
Tourism now reports to director of community economic development Noella Rinaldo.
