Get ready for an action-packed weekend for the annual snowcross races.

The 5th Annual Eclipse Financial Pro Challenge Snowcross is one of a series of Canadian Snowcross Racing Association (CSRA) events for racers vying for the national championship.

While people gunning for the national title attend all the races in the season, Angela Vacchino said there are familiar local riders who show up to race the Timmins event every year as well.

Here are 10 things to know about this weekend's races:

1. The action is all taking place March 3 and 4 at the snow dump located at 605 Spruce St. S.

2. Both days, the gates open at 9 a.m. for fans, and the specialty class racing is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a 30-minute practice for the pro, pro-lite and snow bike riders. The lunch break is from 1 – 1:45 p.m., and the main event take to the track at 2 p.m. The detailed schedule is available here.

3. Never been to snowcross? Vacchino said it’s a fun-filled day with so much going on that you won’t get bored. From the bleachers, expect to witness some high-flying action.

4. It's more than just snowmobiles racing the track. She said this year, the snowbikes have been brought back and will be competing as well.

5. Entry for kids is free on Saturday, and there’s an sweet treat planned for them during the lunch break when there will be an Easter egg/chocolate hunt.

“There’s also a 120 race track for kids to come and get suited up by professional instructors from Yamaha and to be able to go out and ride on the little kids’ track,” she said, adding this feature is being offered both days.

6. Tickets are $25 per day or $40 for the weekend for adults and youth 12 years and over. Seniors 65 years and up and kids six to 11 years are free on Saturday, and $15 on Sunday. Tickets can be picked up at the gates on race days. If you want to ensure a spot in advance, you can get tickets at J&B Cycle, Mike’s General Sales and Riverside RV.

7. Food and drinks will be available on-site. Vacchino noted some of the features are a Tim Hortons truck and maple syrup on snow.

8. It is a licensed event. This year, she said Full Beard Brewery is on board.

9. As an outdoor event, remember to dress for the weather (so far, it is looking good for the two days). Vacchino said there will also be a big tent for families to go in to warm up.

10. Being able to bring back the action every year is because of the community. “If it wasn’t for the support of the businesses and the local community, this event would never happen,” she said.
