10 to 15 cm of snow possible by Wednesday afternoon

A winter weather travel advisory has been issued for the region and includes Highway 101 from Chapleau to Timmins and Highway 11 from Hearst to Cochrane.

Weather advisory in effect for:
    •    Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls
    •    Fraserdale - Pledger Lake
    •    Kapuskasing - Hearst - Smooth Rock Falls
    •    Chapleau - Missinaibi Lake
    •    Gogama - Foleyet

Winter weather travel advisory in effect for tonight and Wednesday.

What:
Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm by Wednesday afternoon. Accumulations may be lesser on primary roadways. Snowfall rates up to 2 cm per hour at times resulting in reduced visibility.

Where:
Shoals Provincial Park to Hearst and as far east as Gogama to Driftwood. This includes Highway 101 from Chapleau to Timmins and Highway 11 from Hearst to Cochrane.

When:
This evening to Wednesday afternoon. The majority of the accumulation is expected tonight into Wednesday morning.

Discussion:
Snowfall is expected to intensify this evening and progress northward toward Highway 11 overnight. Snow should gradually decrease in intensity Wednesday afternoon and may even push west of locations from Smooth Rock Falls to Gogama.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
