Fifteen new COVID-19 cases and three recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (Dec. 21).
Eleven people are in Timmins, three are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls and one person is in the James Bay region.
To date, there have been 2,383 cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 2,277 are recovered and 31 people have died. There are 75 known active cases in the region — 29 in Timmins, 29 people in the Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls area, 8 in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam and Fauquier-Strickland, 8 in Hearst and Hornepayne, and one in the James Bay area.
There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
