The local hospital's heating system is getting an upgrade thanks to an injection of provincial cash.

This year, Ontario is giving Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) over $2 million for critical upgrades and repairs at the 30-year-old facility. Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones was in town to make the announcement with Timmins MPP George Pirie.

With the cash, the hospital is replacing two boilers, two condensing tanks and the associated auxiliary equipment like pumps and valves, said TADH president and CAO Kate Fyfe.

"This system is responsible for heating our hospital and is a crucial part of ensuring a safe and efficient facility. Ensuring that we create a safe physical environment for our patients is critical to their care and recovery. I’ll often say, ‘If we can’t take care of our facility, how can we take care of our patients’," said Fyfe.

The funding is through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund.

“This investment will help the hospital address priority renewal needs while ensuring people in the city can continue to receive the world-class hospital care they need in a safe and comfortable environment,” said Jones.
