A three-part series is digging into the city's roots and looking ahead to the future.

The Timmins Public Library is hosting Mining in Timmins: The past, the present and the future, which runs Sept. 14, Sept. 20 and tentatively on Sept. 25. Each series starts at 6 p.m. at the library located at 320 Second Ave.

Timmins and Sault Ste. Marie regional resident geologist Zeinab Azadbakht is the featured presenter and will be at all three presentations. The final night will include Mayor Michelle Boileau.

The library says the event is a chance to learn from local leaders and resource experts.

"Influential people will deliver ideas and inspiration, and offer the chance to answer any audience questions. Attend one or all of the presentations to enjoy the opportunity to network and knowledge share," reads the news release.

Mining History of Timmins is the first topic on Sept. 14.

It will delve into the history of early mining camps, equipment, prospectors and founders of the area. It will also take a look at Noah Timmins, the founder of the Town of Timmins, which later amalgamated with nearby townships to create the City of Timmins 50 years ago.

What is happening in Timmins now is the focus for Sept. 20.  It will include insights from the exploration and mining industries.

The final night — What is the future of Timmins? — takes a look at what's ahead.

"In other words, will we be here much longer, or is Timmins another mining city doomed to die?" reads the news release.

Registration is not required to attend the free sessions. It is an in-person event only and will not be recorded.
