3 people in hospital, 2 killed in Peawanuck fire

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation

PEAWANUCK - A fire that killed two people and injured three remains under investigation by police. 

In an update today (Feb. 4), Nishnawbe Aski Police Service confirmed that two adults were killed in the Feb. 1 fire in Peawanuck. Three other people were injured and remain in hospital.

"The exact nature of their injuries is not known at this time," reads the NAPS news release. 

Peawanuck is a remote community in Northern Ontario. It's located about 30 kilometres south of Hudson Bay.

The investigation into the cause is ongoing. It includes the NAPS crime unit, the Ontario Fire Marshal, Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario, Ontario Forensic Pathology Service and the OPP.
