Timmins Police urge planning for New Year's Revelers

The Timmins Police Service is issuing a strong reminder to all persons taking part in New Year’s celebration to plan ahead.

The Timmins Police want for all citizens and guests to the city to end 2016 and usher in 2017 on a high note.

Pre-book your cab or arrange for a sober friend or relative to be “on call” for a ride home.

Electing a “designated driver” or staying the night are also viable options.

Timmins Police Service officers will be out in significant numbers, monitoring traffic and checking for sobriety of drivers throughout the evening and well into the wee hours of January 1.

A jail cell or an Intoxilyzer room is no place to start the year off.

Court appearances, administrative driver’s license suspensions, significant fines, elevated insurance premiums, and potential jail terms are on the horizon for those who fail to plan ahead. The public rightfully expects their police service to keep them safe. The Timmins Police Service will continue to do everything it can to contribute to public safety. Motorist share this burden.

That said, please accept a wish for a “Happy New Year” from the uniform personnel and civilian staff at the Timmins Police Service.
