Water levels on Porcupine Lake and the Mattagami River are rising.
With the spring melt and rain, a flood warning is in effect for the Mattagami River.
While the extent of the flooding is unkown, a statement from the Timmins Flood Advisory Committee encourages people living near the Mattagami River to monitor the developing conditions.
The committee is asking for unsecured material and equipment to be removed from shorelines of area lakes and rivers.
"Residents should also be prepared with a household emergency plan should a flood emergency be declared. Parents are asked to let their children know about the dangers of playing in and around lakes, rivers and streams," reads a flood committee advisory.
The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority (MRCA) has a water safety statement in effect for Porcupine Lake and Kamiskotia Lake.
According to the MRCA, it means there are "high flows, unsafe banks, melting ice or other factors that could be dangerous for recreational users such as anglers, canoeists, hikers, children, pets, etc. Flooding is not expected."
