A new exhibit is on display at the Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre.

A Northern Perspective by Temiskaming artist Martin Foley is in the Grey Gallery until Dec. 5.

Originally from Quebec, Foley has been teaching art in Northern Ontario since the early '70s.

“My work has been a reflection of the Northern Landscape, the shorelines of the lakes and rivers with attention focused on the geology of these landscapes. Mostly realist, my paintings can sometimes have a surreal quality especially when I extract some sections of a real landscape and make them appear monumental, giving them a mythic quality," said Foley in a news release.

"These works incorporate dramatic bold lighting with highly textured effects reflecting the Northern geology.  Waterways have always been a part of my life, from my childhood in the Laurentians to canoeing the lakes of Northern Ontario, my home, for the past 40 years.”
