Annual Candy Run collects food, cash for food bank

It's run by the Whitney Fire Department volunteers

Santa and his helpers' annual tour of Porcupine collected thousands of pounds of food and cash.

Every year on the last Sunday before Christmas, Whitney Fire Department volunteers hit the street for the annual Food Bank Drive and Candy Run in support of the South Porcupine Food Bank.

This year, the food bank reports an estimated 3,300 pounds of food was collected, along with $1,266.

The South Porcupine Food Bank has been serving the area since 1987. In November 2019, it served 272 people, including 173 adults and 99 children.

According to the food bank, its monthly average operating costs are $6,243.
