A second Timmins Chamber of Commerce board member is taking a leave of absence for the municipal election campaign.
The chamber recently announced that Alicia Pirie is taking a leave from the board of directors because her father-in-law, George Pirie, is running for mayor in the Oct. 22 election.
“This move comes voluntarily by Pirie to ensure the Chamber maintains its status as an independent, apolitical organization,” reads the release.
“Pirie will reclaim her seat after the Oct. 22 election, and continue her dedicated work as a Director on the Chamber’s board.”
She is the second member of the board of directors to take a leave for the election campaign.
In July, Donna Dorrington-Black stepped away because she is running for the Ward 3 councillor seat.
