A boil water advisory has been issued for Porcupine residents.
This morning (March 21), the City of Timmins issued a notice saying residents in the east end of the city could experience coloured water or low water pressure due to a watermain break.
The boil water advisory is precautionary, according to a new statement from the city. It's in effect until further notice.
Residents in the affected area who are on municipal water should bring drinking water to a rolling boil for one minute.
The city is working on repairs and microbiological testing is being done.
"The City of Timmins will be testing the water supply to determine its potability. The situation will be continuously monitored and all residents will be notified when the boil water advisory has been lifted," reads the advisory.
Under a boil water advisory, the Porcupine Health Unit says tap water can be used for washing clothes, taking showers (for adults and older children), shaving and flushing toilets.
Boiled water is recommended for drinking, brushing teeth, handwashing, washing dishes, washing fruits and vegetables, preparing food and baby formula, making ice, coffee makers, sponge bathing babies and young children, giving to pets.
