Footprints downtown Timmins are helping raise awareness.
Chalk drawings in memory of thousands of Indigenous children whose remains were found at former residential schools across Canada have recently popped up. Along with the footprints are messages such as 'bring them home' and 'every child matters'.
One of the organizers said the drawings were made for three reasons: to mourn the children, stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples, and engage and educate others on Indigenous history.
A 24-hour residential school crisis line, established to provide support to former students and their families, is available at 1-866-925-4419.
