The Timmins Chamber of Commerce is helping residents make informed decisions in next month’s municipal election.

A discussion tomorrow is allowing residents to talk about their vision for the city’s future, and allow the organization to reveal the results of its community vision survey. All of the Timmins candidates running in the election have also been invited to attend.

The roundtable runs from 6 – 7 p.m. at the McIntyre Curling Club. There is no cost to attend.

“Because the chamber is a non-partisan business advocacy organization the chamber is continually engaged in the political process,” said Nancy Mageau, Timmins Chamber of Commerce board president.

“Over the next little while we’re going to hold several sessions as a service to the public on behalf of the business community. The sessions are intended to help the public make informed decisions on election day and identify where the candidates stand on business issues.

Earlier this year, the chamber released its policy platform A Timmins That Works: Business Priorities for the 2018 Municipal Election.

“It was built in consultation with our members to highlight the business community’s most pressing recommendations to build a stronger economic future beyond Oct. 22,” said Mageau.

Next month, the chamber also has candidate debates scheduled.

Thursday, Oct. 4 is a meet the candidates night and mayoral debate at O’Gorman High School.

There will be a meet and greet with the councillor candidates in the common area/cafeteria from 6 – 7 p.m., followed by the mayoral debate in the theatre from 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 6 – 8 p.m. there is a debate at Northern College for councillor candidates in Wards 2, 3 and 4.

The following night, Oct. 11, there is a debate for candidates running in Wards 1 and 5.
