TIMMINS - With another winter storm on the way, the City of Timmins has declared a significant weather event.

The declaration is effective at 6 p.m. today (March 19).

"Due to the winter storm warning issued by Environment Canada and modeling with the amount of snow forecasted, we are anticipating delays in the plowing of some city streets and roads along with most city sidewalks. City resources will be deployed when deemed appropriate," reads the notice.

There may also be delays or cancellations with Timmins Transit services.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls.

Environment Canada says 20 to 40 centimetres of snow could fall starting this afternoon and tapering off Thursday evening.

At the storm's peak there could be three to five centimetres of snow per hour.

"Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays," reads the alert.

"Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve."
