The Timmins Police teamed up with the OPP’s SAVE Unit this weekend to undertake an enforcement initiative focused on snowmobile safety and operator compliance with the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act. These Timmins Police Service officers along with two OPP officers performed an intensive series of patrols throughout the weekend on area OFSC trails in an effort to address all manner of violations but focused in particular on snowmobiles with altered exhaust systems.

As a collaborative enforcement undertaking, a total of 28 Provincial Offence Notices were issued to area snowmobile operators for the following offences:

  • 24 for modified exhaust systems
  • 3 for failing to have a trail permit
  • 1 document related charge

In addition, these officers doled out over 50 verbal warnings to operators for a variety of infractions under the MSVA in the hopes that the individual operator would address their comportment and adopt a 'full compliance' attitude in regards to the existing statutes that govern responsible snowmobile operation and trail system usage.

The Timmins Police Service places a high priority on snowmobile trail safety and deploys manpower and resources focused on enhancing the safe enjoyment of the trail system locally. The individual operator has the burden of being a responsible operator by remaining in full compliance with the MSVA and other pertinent statutes.

Where violations are observed or located on patrol by Timmins Police Service officers, the appropriate enforcement action is undertaken to address the infraction and contribute to public safety.
