The Town of Cochrane is investing nearly $900,000 to pulverize, grade, compact and pave several of its roads.

COCHRANE - Cochrane’s roads are set for a facelift as the town commits nearly $900,000 to upgrade some key routes throughout the municipality.

The work is going to cost the town about $884,000. It’s estimated it will take less than two weeks to complete and is set to be done next month.

At Tuesday’s (Aug. 13) council meeting, Mayor Peter Politis said he’s excited that the town is finally getting some of the paving done that they’ve been trying to get around to doing.

“I appreciate all the hard work. I know we were late in the game, unfortunately, this year, in terms of getting contractors on board,” he said.

“I’m not only thrilled that there were contractors that were available, I'm thrilled that the local contractor was able to successfully win the bid and help us get going. We obviously know how important road paving right now in the community is.”

The town received three bids for the project, with Villeneuve Construction getting the contract.

The company will be pulverizing, grading, compacting and paving 9th Avenue, 11th Avenue, 15th Avenue, 4th Avenue, Sybil Avenue, Lakefront Avenue and 8th Avenue.

Several roads are planned for paving next year, with some being total reconstructions.
