NEWS RELEASE
TOWN OF COCHRANE
*************************
The Humbolt Broncos bus crash is not only a tragedy of monumental proportion, it's an indiscriminate broad based tragedy that collectively shocks us to the core.
As Canadians it strikes us all regardless of our differences and distance from each other as it shakes the foundation of who we are and how we live;
As human beings it exposes our most intimate emotions and values as it characterizes itself in our own immediate loved ones;
As Parents it rips our hearts apart while poignantly reminding us of how valuable every moment in time is with our family;
As Billet Parents it challenges our ability to separate and tears at the foundation of our own personal humanity and support for the families we serve;
As northerners, who live the Canadian way of life, who rely on each other for support of who we are and what we believe in, who form a family built on small town rural values, across 5,000 kilometers of the very geography facilitating the travelling risks themselves, it drives a sense of preservation;
The overwhelming response of unity and support expressed by us all for those who have lost, and for those who feel the loss, is matched only by our compulsive sense of responsibility to come together, and surround our fellow northern family in unconditional love, in their time of need.
Our great way of life took an incredible hit in Humbolt, Saskatchewan. And while an entire country stands behind Humbolt, there is a special connection to our small town of Cochrane Ontario, that characterizes both the breadth and closeness of the tragedy.
Some 2,200 kilometers away, our own Junior A Cochrane Crunch team has players currently representing us who came here from the Humbolt Broncos. Even under the most challenging of circumstances, and in the spirit of the way of life we share, united we stand ...
As a humble vigil of this we will keep our welcome sign, located on the Trans Canada Highway in Northern Ontario, lit green for fifteen days. We encourage anyone feeling the need to do so to place an offering at the vigil, to join us in this moment of national unity and need.
In loving memory... God Bless!
