The inaugural Coldest Night of the Year walk in Timmins was more than organizers hoped for.
The fundraiser for the Anti-Hunger Coalition Timmins (ACT) raised 104 per cent of its target, putting the tally at $31,328.
The event was held Feb. 24 and had participants walking a two, five or 10-kilometre route starting at the Lord’s Kitchen.
The walk route wasn't a coincidence.
It was mapped out to bring participants by some of the groups giving back in the community — passing by Project Love, the Porcupine Health Unit, First Baptist Church, Yo Mobile, and more.
Money raised at the event is supporting ACT's programming to increase food security in the area.
The main programs are the Good Food Box, collective cooking and community gardens. All are open to everyone in the community.
This Sunday, March 4 is another big fundraiser for the organization, the popular Empty Bowls event at Northern College.
