Collège Boréal Students enrolled at Collège Boréal and the Université de Hearst, in Timmins, were left today with a better understanding of issues surrounding consent and sexual violence thanks to the play Loin du coeur (Far from the Heart).

Presented by Sheatre, a community arts organization for social change, the play uses theatre to educate the audience about rape, sexual violence, and healthy relationships. The play uses interactive forum theatre; the cast creates realistic, problematic scenarios, and audience members are invited to suggest different actions to change the outcome.

The play has been presented across the province in both French and English.

In September 2016, Collège Boréal launched its Sexual Violence Awareness Campaign for students and staff in all campus locations and access centres. Boréal, in partnership with the Université de Hearst, requested a scheduled show in Timmins as part of the theatre company’s Ontario Tour.
