Collision slows traffic on highway

Incident occurred late Friday afternoon near South Porcupine.

Snowy and slippery conditions on area roads led to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 101 east.

The incident occurred a little after 3:30 on Friday afternoon, near South Porcupine, on the city's main thoroughfare.

Two vehicles were involved, and the incident took place in the centre lanes, not involving the shoulders or ditches.

Paramedics arrived quickly on the scene, followed by police, and much later, the fire department.

Injuries are likely, as ambulances were seen being loaded with patients.

Traffic was slowed heavily by the incident, particularly in the westbound lanes.

A detour was briefly set up to re-route traffic away from the scene.

Traffic was flowing in both directions by 4:45.

TimminsToday has been in contact with the Timmins Police Service, who have yet to report any information.

We've also contacted the O.P.P. who were at the scene, but they say the incident is under TPS jurisdiction.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
