TIMMINS - With the Timmins library marking its centennial, local artists are getting creative to celebrate the milestone.

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m. a new mural is being unveiled at the Timmins Public Library, 320 Second Ave. It was painted by the Porcupine Art Club to commemorate the library's 100th anniversary.

The mural features 49 canvases that were painted at the anniversary celebration over the summer and later framed together to create a mosaic-style painting.

"This project was inspired by a similar project the Porcupine Art Club did in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The completed work, featuring notable landmarks, now hangs in the Golden Manor. Our new mural celebrates the library as the heart of the community both in its design and with the many hands that helped paint it," said Karina Douglas-Takayesu, Porcupine Art Club secretary and head of technical support and systems at the library.

At the unveiling, new signage above the library entrance will also be introduced.
