CONNAUGHT - A new space for people to get active is getting closer to reality.

The Connaught Community Association is getting $311,094 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) for its outdoor sports court.

“Our government is providing NOHFC funding to build an outdoor multi-use sports court in Connaught,” said Timmins MPP George Pirie in a news release. “This funding will enable members of the community to get together and skate, play basketball, tennis, pickleball and badminton with friends and family at a facility close to their homes.”

For the past several years, the Connaught Community Association has been raising money for a year-round recreational area for people of all ages. It will be a space to play soccer, basketball and racquet sports during the summer and skate in the winter.

The City of Timmins backed the club's NOHFC application last year. It's also provided in-kind services for the project such as locate information, a property survey and identifying the four stakes, accessing improvements to the property, installing new culverts, and project management services.

“NOHFC funding has allowed our organization to complete our project,” said Linda Lefort, Connaught Community Association president. “The sports courts will invigorate the community of Connaught, keeping youth and seniors active at a place near home.”
