Three local brewers from Timmins are reaching to the community to gather more information on the craft beer interests of local beer drinkers.
Corey McLister, Kevin Patriquin, and Mael Girard are craft beer enthusiasts who have gone on many brewery tours, to many craft beer festivals and have been actively brewing up some of their own suds for some time now.
Their dream is to one day open up a microbrewery here in town.
Recently the trio have traveled to the Micro-Brew Fest in Sudbury.
The festival was hosted by Stack Brewery and had the participation of reps from other northern breweries such as Outspoken Brewery, Highlander Brewery, Lake of Bays, Sleeping Giant, Saw Dust City Brewery, Rheault Distillery from Hearst and Beau's Brewery of the Ottawa Valley.
The brewers are fairly confident that Timmins would be a great city to establish a micro-brewery.
Many of the other breweries in the North are now struggling to keep up with demand.
In order to have a local craft brewery, the group believes they need to focus on educating the community on the craft beer culture and industry.
It is no secret that there are many beer drinkers in Timmins, and this represents a good potential market for the craft brewers.
The three have been brewing batches of their own beer for a while but have only recently begun a page on Facebook simply called Timmins Brewery.
They are actively reaching out to the community and would love input through surveys and contests.
Although it is much too early to speculate a time frame for opening a brewery, they say that within 2 or 3 years, given proper funding and successful licensing application, Timmins could very well have a micro-brew to call its own.
Before any of that happens they need as much input as they can get from the community.
This input will help build a bond between the public and the brewers, as well as provide valuable market research for the business plan that they are currently engaged in writing.
They want to make craft beer for Timmins drinkers, and want to know what will quench their thirst.
“This is a call out to the community to get involved in the creation of our local brewery," say the three brewers.
They would like anyone interested in the idea of a Timmins-based craft brewery to check out the Timmins Brewery page on Facebook and take part in the Timmins Brewery beer survey.
